Here are some ideas for scenic, easy walks near Exeter that the whole family can enjoy…
Stoke Woods – A Haven for Birdwatchers
Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its diverse bird population, Stoke Woods is a tranquil woodland with winding paths, ideal for exploring with the family. Despite being just 10 minutes from Exeter, the woods feel remote and secluded, the perfect spot to get away from it all. With beautiful birdsong filling the air in spring and summer, and a rich display of coloured foliage in the autumn months, there’s something to discover at Stoke Woods all year round.
Dawlish Warren – Sea Views and Big Skies
If you’re a fan of stunning vistas, then head to Dawlish Warren for coastal walks with magnificent views. With the sound of the waves as your backdrop, you can follow the sandy paths that wind through the nature reserve. This is a walk to savour, to stop and soak up the views of the sea and the Exe estuary. That sea breeze will certainly blow the cobwebs away!
Brampford Speke – A Charming Riverside Walk
The 4-mile circular walk at Brampford Speke takes just under two hours. It’s an easy walk, taking you along the riverside and across open farmland. The village itself has a peaceful atmosphere, with its old stone buildings, including the Agricultural Inn, a traditional pub dating back to the 18th century. If you’ve worked up an appetite on your walk, it’s a great place to stop for refreshments.
Haytor, Dartmoor – Dramatic Scenery to Delight the Senses
For a real change of scene, you really can’t beat a moorland walk on Dartmoor. Head out to Haytor on a clear day, and you’ll be able to see for miles as you explore Haytor Rocks, the old quarries and the Granite Tramway. With an almost ethereal, timeless aura about it, Dartmoor is the perfect place to clear your head and gain a fresh perspective. There are trails for all abilities and activity levels, from gentle strolls to lengthier, more arduous hikes.
